Background of the Study
Adaptive learning is an educational technology that personalizes the learning experience based on individual student needs, learning styles, and performance. By using data analytics and AI algorithms, adaptive learning systems can tailor learning materials and activities to optimize the pace and style of learning for each student. Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State, like many universities, faces challenges in providing personalized learning pathways for its diverse student population. AI-based adaptive learning systems offer an opportunity to address these challenges by dynamically adjusting course content and assessments based on students' progress and learning patterns. This study aims to develop an AI-based student adaptive learning pathway system that supports personalized learning for students at Modibbo Adama University.
Statement of the Problem
At Modibbo Adama University, many students face difficulties in mastering course content due to one-size-fits-all teaching methods and a lack of personalized learning experiences. Traditional methods do not account for individual differences in learning speed, comprehension, or study habits, which can hinder student success. The development of an AI-based adaptive learning pathway system could provide personalized recommendations and learning materials, improving the learning outcomes for students. However, there is limited research on the implementation and effectiveness of such systems in university settings.
Objectives of the Study
1. To develop an AI-based adaptive learning pathway system for students at Modibbo Adama University.
2. To assess the effectiveness of the system in improving student performance and engagement.
3. To evaluate student satisfaction with the personalized learning pathways provided by the AI system.
Research Questions
1. How effective is the AI-based adaptive learning system in enhancing student academic performance?
2. How does the system tailor learning pathways to individual students based on their learning patterns and needs?
3. What is the level of student satisfaction with the personalized learning experiences offered by the AI system?
Research Hypotheses
1. The AI-based adaptive learning pathway system will significantly improve students' academic performance.
2. The system will be able to personalize learning pathways effectively, improving student engagement and retention of course material.
3. Students will report higher satisfaction with AI-based personalized learning experiences compared to traditional teaching methods.
Significance of the Study
This study will help to improve educational practices at Modibbo Adama University by providing evidence on the effectiveness of AI-driven adaptive learning pathways. The findings could guide the broader adoption of AI technologies in higher education to enhance student learning outcomes.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on developing and evaluating an AI-based adaptive learning system for students at Modibbo Adama University in Yola, Adamawa State. Limitations may include challenges in data collection and analysis, as well as the technical complexity of implementing AI algorithms in educational settings.
